Brow Lift in Amsterdam: 7 Mistakes That Ruin Your Results
The fastest way to waste a brow lift? Treat it like a magic wand instead of what it really is: a styling treatment for the brow hairs you already have.
We do a lot of brow lifts in Amsterdam, and the results that make clients happiest almost never come down to luck. They come down to a few small decisions made before, during and after the appointment. So here are the brow lift mistakes we see most often in our De Pijp salon, and the simple ways to avoid every single one.
First, what a brow lift actually does
A brow lift sets your natural brow hairs in a new direction, usually brushed up and slightly outward, so they look fuller, neater and more lifted. Think of it as a perm for your brows, only far chicer and with much better PR.
It is brilliant for brows that grow downward, curl in different directions or refuse to stay put by lunchtime. What it won't do is grow hair where there isn't any. Keep that in mind, because it's mistake number one.
Brow lift Amsterdam: 7 mistakes we see all the time
1. Expecting it to fill in gaps
A lift works with the hairs you have. If your brows are sparse, patchy or over-plucked from a certain decade we won't name, a lift alone can make gaps more visible rather than less.
The fix: be honest in your consultation. For sparse areas, airbrush brows can add a soft, filled-in look, and we can tell you whether a lift, a tint or a combination makes the most sense for your brows.
2. Skipping the shaping
A lift makes every hair more visible, including the strays you normally ignore. Lifted brows with untidy edges look a bit like a gorgeous coat with the tags still on.
The fix: pair your lift with brow shaping. Clean edges are what turn "fluffy" into "polished".
3. Getting them wet too soon
This is the classic one. Hot shower, steamy gym session, a good cry at a rom-com on the first evening, and the brows start to relax before they've properly set.
The fix: keep your brows dry and away from steam for as long as your stylist advises, usually the first day. Skip the sauna and sweaty workouts for that window too.
4. Booking it the morning of the big day
Freshly lifted brows can look very "set" for the first day or two before they soften into their natural, brushed shape. Lovely, but maybe not the exact look you planned for a wedding, a photo shoot or the office Christmas party.
The fix: book a few days ahead of any event. With the party season coming, this is the tip that saves the most December panic.
5. Asking for "as lifted as possible"
Brow trends have moved firmly toward soft and natural. The super-flat, glued-up look is out, and a brow that looks like your own brow on its best day is in.
The fix: tell your stylist the vibe you want, not just "more". Bring a photo if it helps. A softer lift often looks fresher and grows out more gracefully.
6. Keeping quiet about your skin
Sensitive skin, recent irritation, or strong skincare actives like retinol or exfoliating acids near the brow area are all things your stylist needs to know about before any treatment.
The fix: mention them at your appointment, even if they feel minor. If you are unsure whether a brow lift suits your skin, ask us about a patch test first.
7. Lifting again too soon
Loved your result so much you want to redo it the moment it starts to relax? Understandable, but your brow hairs deserve a break between treatments.
The fix: let your lift grow out naturally and ask your stylist when it's a good time to book again. Healthy hairs give a better lift next time.
Your quick brow lift checklist
Before your appointment
Arrive with clean brows, no brow gel or makeup if you can manage it
Mention sensitive skin, allergies or skincare actives
Bring a reference photo of the look you like
Plan it a few days before any event, not on the day
After your appointment
Keep brows dry and steam-free for the time your stylist advises
Avoid rubbing, tinting at home or heavy products on the brows at first
Brush them into place each morning with a clean spoolie
Ask us about nourishing brow care, including our own ERRA brow products, to keep hairs soft and healthy
So, is a brow lift worth it?
If your brows have plenty of hair but no sense of direction, yes, absolutely. It is one of the easiest ways to look more awake without touching a brow pencil, and your morning routine gets noticeably shorter.
If your brows are sparse or you want definition that stays, a lift may be only part of the answer. That's where shaping, airbrush brows or a chat about PMU brows comes in. Either way, the right plan starts with an honest consultation.
